Pakistan will be preparing hard for the next ODI against South Africa, Pakistan has the ability to bounce back hard at their opponents they have done this in past ,they are a very unpredictable side in shorter version of game.

Pakistan will look to find the best possible combination before the next game. Pakistan were beaten in all departments in the first game. There bowling was not upto the mark which is unlike their nature because Pakistan is known to be a dangerous bowling unit with the varieties they have.

They have spinners of all kind. They have leg break bowler in Shahid Afridi, left hander specialist in Mohammad Hafeez, and the magic man Saeed Ajmal and they can also use Shoaib Malik who can be more then handy with the ball. With these spinning options they have also got variety in their pace as well in Umar Gul and Junaid khan.

Mohammad Irfan was not selected in first ODI which is understandable as Pakistan don’t want the 7 footer to get injured by playing to much cricket. Pakistan batting also disappointed them in the first ODI with none of the batsmen getting to 50. When chasing a big score like 316 Pakistan would have ideally wanted one of its top 3 batters to carry his bat. But it did not happen.

Pakistan would like to forget what had happened with them in the first ODI and they would like to look ahead for the future. South Africa will be wary of the fact that Pakistan is a sort of team who can be very dangerous and can destroy its opponents completely.

The next ODI will be played at Centurion on 15th march. It will be a day-night encounter.

SERIES REPORT:

The recent series between Pakistan and South Africa concluded with South Africa winning all three matches, they dominated the whole series. Pakistan on the other hand would feel disappointed as they came close of beating South Africa in the 2nd test but eventually South Africa won it.

Let us look at the performance of both teams throughout these series.

South Africa’s Highs:

BOWLERS:

Dale Steyn:

Fast, Furious, pacy, aggressive, dominant, these are just a few words that one associate with the name of Dale Steyn.  He was the talking point throughout the series and he lived upto his reputation he picked up 20 wickets in the series at an average of 12.90.

Vernon Philander:

Ideal new ball partner for Dale Steyn. Vernon Philander may not be the quickest bowler of South Africa but he has a great ability to seam and swing the red cherry both ways. He also troubled Pakistani batters throughout the series and picked up 15 wickets at an average of 15.80.

Kyle Abbott:

He may have played only one game in this series but it will be very disappointing if his name is not included in this list. The debutant was the highlight of 3rd test he picked up 9 wickets in his only match.

BATSMEN:

Ab de Villiers:

The highest run getter of the series, only batsman to score 2 centuries in this series, Man Of the series award winner, yes, you are spot on we are talking about Ab de villiers here. He scored 388 runs in the series at an average of 88.

Hashim Amla:

Hashim Amla has become MR.DEPENDABLE for South Africa. This man never gets tired of scoring. He scored 286 runs with 3 fifty plus scores at an average of 71.50.

South Africa’s Lows:

BOWLER:

Morne Morkel:

A rare failure for South Africa in their bowling department. Morne Morkel only bagged 4 wickets in 2 matches he played in the series at an average of  41.75.

BATSMEN:

Dean Elgar:

Dean Elgar did not perform as well as he would have liked to. He scored 68 runs throughout this series.

Alviro Peterson:

He had not the most pleasing series with the bat . He scored 75 runs in 5 innings at an average of 15

Pakistan’s Highs:

BOWLERS:

Saeed Ajmal:

Though he did not get many wickets in the 1st and 3rd test, but may be if he was given chance by his batsmen then he may have proved quite a worry for South Africa. He still caused many troubles for them as he picked up 11 wickets in the series.

Rahat Ali:

Many cricket followers and pundits wrote him off after his pour outing in the first test but he proved his critics wrong in the final test where he picked up 6 wickets. He did not get the chance to bowl in the 2nd innings.

BATSMEN:

Asad Shafiq:

Asad Shafiq became one of the positives for Pakistan in South Africa. It is not easy to score runs against a bowling line-up like South Africa but he played well against them. He was their highest run getter. He scored 199 runs at an average of 33.16

Younis Khan:

He batted at tense positions when his team was struggling but he stood like a rock. His partnership of 219 with Asad Shafiq was a big achievement for Pakistan. He scored 184 runs with one century at an averge of 30.66.

Pakistan’s Lows:

BOWLERS:

Tanvir Ahmed:

Tanvir ahmed disappointed his fans. He was bowling with a constant speed of 120-125 kph. He might have played the last test of his career only time will tell.

BATSMEN:

Mohammad Hafeez:

So much was expected of  professor throughout this series but he could not deliver. He scored only 43 runs at an average of 7.11.

Sarfraz Ahmed:

In the modern era, keepers need to perform with the bat too which Sarfraz Ahmed did not. He had a horrible series and he would like to forget it. He scored 83 runs at an average of 18.83

Centurion: South Africa on top after indisciplined and inexperienced Pakistan bowling on the first day of the third test match. South Africa scored lot of runs on day first with good strike rate and they are 334-6 with de Villiers is still at the crease.

South African captain won the toss and opted to bat first against inexperienced Pakistani pace attack. Before the start of the match Pakistan received sad news as Umar Gull is not available due to a sore throat. Junaid Khan who was impressive in the first match also  got injured and he has not recovered yet from injury. Pakistan played with inexperienced Rahat Ali and Ehsan Adil who made his test debut. Pakistani bowlers were very expensive and South African batsman played them with ease.

Hashim Amla scored 92 runs with strike rate of 71.87 which is considered as a very good strike rate in test matches. AB de Villiers is still at the crease with 98 runs and he is 2 runs away from his 2nd hundred in this series. Saeed Ajmal tried hard and bowled with variety but he was not able to pick up any wicket. At the moment South Africans are 334-6 and they certainly are favorites and they are in the position where they can put pressure on Pakistan batting.

There were two changes in this match for South Africa. Jack Kallis is given rest and South Africa strengthened their pace attack.  South Africans are playing with 4 pacers and 1 spinner. Pakistani batting will soon be tested against this change. On the other hand, there are 3 changes for Pakistan. Imran Farhat who scored a 300 in Pakistan domestic is playing instead of Nasir Jamshed who scored 2 consecutive hundreds against India. Rahat Ali is playing in place of injured Umar Gull and Ehsan Adil is playing instead of Tanvir Ahmed. Pakistan has to come with better plans to get South Africa out as early as possible otherwise it will be a easy clean sweep.

Cape Town: Pakistan batting collapsed as South Africa win the series 2-0. Pakistan was in a great position to win this test match but South Africa bowled well to win the series 2-0.

Saeed Ajmal took 10 wickets in the match

Pakistan is known as unpredicted side the unpredictable happened and four wickets went down for just five runs which allowed South Africa to bowl out Pakistan for 169 runs. South Africans were playing without Morne Morkel who was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Despite of the limited bowling option South Africa managed to bowl out Pakistan for 169 runs on a pitch which was slow and good for batting. Azhar Ali and Misbah showed some resistance but after their dismissal no one scored useful runs.

Saeed Ajmal was a threat for South Africans and with his great spin bowling, he picked up 4 wickets and 10 wickets in a match. He really was a quality but but he did not get any support from the other end. The target was 181 which was not an easy target. Pakistan got the early break through but Hashim Amla and AB Devilliers played well and scored with good strike rate creating pressure on Pakistani bowlers. Pakistan bowled well with the new bowl but after that it was easy for South Africa.

Pakistan really missed Junaid Khan as his replacement Tanvir Ahmed was not able to perform in the match. His bowling was lacking pace and there was hardly any swing for him. Mohammad Irfan who made his debut in this match was impressive and he troubled the South African batsman with his pace and extra bounce that he gets due to his height. This was a very good test match and South Africans proved why they are No. 1 side in the world.

Ajmal puts Pakistan ahead

Saeed Ajmal got his 7th 5 wicket haul in tests and he became the second Pakistani spinner to take a 5 wicket haul in South Africa after Mushtaq Ahmed when he dismissed South Africa’s top 5 batsman after Pakistani batsman pushed the score to 338 in the first innings.

Pakistan started the day at 253 for 5 and they soon lost their overnight pair. At 268 Pakistan lost 8 wickets. And thereafter Tanvir Ahmed and Saeed Ajmal put a nice fighting partnership to take the score to 338.

South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Alviro Peterson started the innings for them. Graeme Smith was the first of five Saeed Ajmal’s victim when he was trapped infront. The decision was given not out by the on-field umpire but it was over turned after reviewing it.Alviro Peterson was the next to go as he edged the ball to Azhar Ali who took a good catch at short leg to give Saeed Ajmal his second wicket.

Hashim Amla and Faf du plesis then tried to rebuild the innings but Saeed Ajmal had other plans soon after tea Saeed Ajmal trapped Hashim Amla leg before the decision was again over turned after Pakistan reviewed it.

Jacques Kallis was the next one to go and it was a very controversial decision as he was given out caught by the on-field umpire and when Kallis reviewed it there was no edge involved but he was still given out  LBW, the ball was just kissing the stumps. Kallis will feel very hard done as the decision was also based against one of DRS law.

Faf du plesis was the last to be dismissed on 2nd day as he got a brute from Saeed Ajmal. He was taken by Younis Khan at slips. Late in the day Ab de villiers also survived a close review by Pakistan.

Mohammad Irfan was also bowling for the first time in test matches and he was bowling with good pace but he could not pick any wicket on Day 2 . Umar Gul and Tanvir Ahmed also bowled good in patches and they created the pressure from other end which also helped Saeed Ajmal.

Pakistan will feel very comfortable at this stage but still there so much to play for and South Africa has the ability to bounce back. South Africa are currently 139 for 5 and they will to add as much as they can to this score on Day 3.
